DAY 4 – Island Escape
Thasos – The Emerald of the Aegean
10:00 - 19:30
After breakfast, we will begin our short journey to the island of Thassos, taking the ferry from Keramoti, just 15–20 minutes from Kavala. The crossing itself is a pleasant 45-minute sail across the Aegean, bringing us to the emerald shores of the island.
Thassos, often called the “Emerald of the Aegean,” blends myth, history, and natural beauty. In Greek mythology, Zeus transformed into a bull to abduct Europa, and Thasos, the son of Poseidon, set out to search for her. When he reached the island, he was so enchanted by its beauty that he decided to remain there, giving the island his name. In antiquity, Thasos was renowned for its rich deposits of gold and marble, as well as its fine wines and olive oil.
Today, the island continues to impress with its pine forests that reach down to the sea, sandy beaches, and the charm of its traditional villages.
Upon arrival, we will have time to wander through its picturesque alleys and stroll along the waterfront. Later, we will enjoy lunch at one of the island’s many traditional tavernas and then savor our coffee at the old boatyard. Weather permitting, there will also be a chance for a refreshing swim in the turquoise waters. A walk to the lighthouse will offer moments of calm just before our wine tasting at the beautifully restored art hotel of the island. In the late afternoon, we will return to Kavala with the local ferry.

At the edge of Limenas harbor lies the Old Shipyard, where generations of local craftsmen built and repaired boats. Today, its historic ramp and stone remnants tell the story of Thassos’ maritime tradition.
We’ll enjoy coffee or a drink here, soaking in the sea view and the relaxed atmosphere. If the weather allows, there’s even time for a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters before continuing our island adventure.
Located in the heart of Limenas, the A for Art Hotel is a stylish blend of contemporary design and local charm. The building, with roots in the town’s maritime past, has been carefully renovated to create a welcoming space where history meets modern comfort.
Here, we’ll enjoy a wine tasting, savoring local Thassos wines in an artistic setting that celebrates creativity and the island’s rich heritage. The combination of design, history, and flavors makes this stop a unique experience on our Thassos journey.
